All’anagrafe era registrato come Benjamin Earl Nelson, noi seguaci delle cose della musica lo conosciamo come Ben E. King. Nei suoi 76 anni di vita è stato interprete e autore di buon successo. Ma uno ha avuto più successo degli altri e, seppur scritto nel 1961, ha mantenuto intatto il suo fascino fino ai giorni nostri. Una di quelle canzoni che si possono definire ‘perfette’, stiamo parlando di “Stand by me” scritta da King assieme a due giganti quali Leiber e Stoller.

Nelle pagine seguenti lo ricordiamo, oggi nel giorno della anniversario della sua nascita avvenuta il 28 settembre del 1938, con le quattro canzoni con cui raggiunse la prima posizione della classifica di vendita statunitense (con “Stand by me” ci riuscì due volte, la seconda nel 1986 quando uscì l’omonimo film diretto da Rob Reiner) e con alcune delle più famose versioni di “Stand by me” interpretate da altri artisti.
