A peaceful sunset time at Cupecoy beach - Sint Maarten island 🌅 Right behind, a lovely local bar/restaurant run by adorable people provides fresh products such as ribs and red snapper for a simple but delightful barbecue meal.

A huge thank you to Mother Nature for this encounter, a beautiful Eagle ray (or "raie Léopard" in French), spotted at Tintamarre, an uninhabited small island next to Saint Martin. Usually very fearful, the Eagle rays here can be easily approached as they are used to human beings presence in this protected area. But this is not a reason to bother them : the tail looks like a whip and is armed with one or more poisonous sting(s) which the bite is extremely painful..! According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Eagle rays are a part of the "near threatened" species, their number decreasing. Indeed, their gestation lasts 12 months with between 1 and 4 baby(ies) per litter every 2 or 3 years. Furthermore, and like many aquatic species, they suffer from the damage of coastal fishing.
