‘Sorry Simona, you weren’t successful this time…’
And this time. And this time.
‘Sorry Simona, you weren’t successful this time…’
I heard the beep of my email notification just a couple of minutes before an important call. I read the message and I thought ‘Ok’, managing to keep my focus on the coming call. Then, another beep. Same message. A bit annoyed, I thought ‘I understand’, but I did not get really distracted. I still had my phone in my hands when I heard a third beep. This time, I had only a certitude in life, ‘I am a failure’. And my important call was due to start.
Apart from a deep reflection on how much these automatized email systems need improvement 😤, and apart that I was being informed not to be successful for something that was even not particularly meaningful to me 🙄, how is it possible that I spent one hour getting focused and present for my call and less than two minutes were enough to destroy all my efforts 🤔??? I found only one reasonable answer, ‘I am human!’
Luckily, I have been working on my self-belief and self-leadership for some years now, so I just put into practice my favourite strategy for ‘big-failure emergencies’. I pictured Rocky Balboa (without all the blood & Co. of course, I am a sensitive soul!) during one of his boxing matches, thinking, ‘To succeed, it ain’t about how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward’.
The winner is not always the best athlete. The winner is the person who can master their body and their mind best, and whose 'why' is pure fire. You can win the game even before starting playing. You can win in the exact moment you believe that you are the winner.
So, what is your game? Let me know in the comments below!

Are you curious to know how my call went?
‘Sorry Simona, you weren’t successful this time…’
Ehm…Rocky?!?
‘Simona, this was only the first round, the match is not over yet! And, by the way, your game is not over until you decide it is!'
