The idea of raising a symbol that embodied the religious spirit of the city of Rio de Janeiro arose in the mid-nineteenth century, at the suggestion of the religious Pedro María Boss, with the support of Princess Isabel of Portugal. However, it took almost five decades until the idea resumed in 1921, within the celebrations for the centenary of the independence of Brazil.

The Roman Colosseum is a construction of the first century after Christ. Its function was to be the place where shows and games were held for the general public. It is located in the city of Rome, Italy. The original name of the amphitheater is Flavio Amphitheater (in Latin Amphitheatrum Flavium), taking the name of Colosseum some time later.
