Abracadabra - How magicians change reality
Abracadabra is the most famous word related to Magick, but what does it mean? How did we end up knowing so little about how to alter reality? If you think I made a mistake spelling Magick, I didn't.
When powerful tools are used as toys, we become naive players instead of responsible actors.
If we take the example of a gun or a knife, this could never happen, they would never become toys for they are seen as 'too dangerous' to play with. The absence of an immediate impact of other weapons/tools seems to bring about a lack of concern. However, a delayed effect it is not equivalent to the absence of said effect. Actually long term effects are sometimes the most dangerous, for they also take a long time to revert (if reverting them is indeed possible!) and are far more pervasive.
The use of the word abracadabra in movies and games right before a cealed door opens or an 'impossible' thing happens is a demonstration of how incredible tools became toys for mass entertainment. A word that is used without regard for its meaning.
Magick is "the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will" (Aleister Crowley in Thelema).
Abracadabra means I create what I speak. It is not a word you say to open a door, it is a word you understand to open all doors.
Words are the labels of experience, they define the boundaries of things. With your words, you create your boundaries. (and sometimes, those of other people!).
Emotions manifest in your body. Imagine you start feeling a series of sensations right before you are about to go on stage to speak for 500 people. In that moment, the words you use to describe what is happening will greatly influence what happens next. If I say "I'm excited", or "I'm anxious", I'm sure you can understand I'm going to have two completely different experiences.
And you might say: "but Bruno, that is thinking, not speaking...so abracadabra doesn't apply!"
As one of my mentors taught me: "Thinking is speaking quietly to oneself, and speaking is thinking out loud to others".
Everyday, in a way or in another, you are constantly creating your reality with words. Which reality are you building for yourself?
Always remember that the lips of wisdom move only to ears of understanding.
....to be continued.
