The Dawn of the Renaissance, namely the Sweet New Style

The cultural event foresees fully immersive experiences through guided visits to the exhibition of the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection, in the magnificent setting of Castel Caldes. Representatives of the business world and Trentino communities will be present. The exposition runs from June to early November.

At the end of the tour will take place outside the museum the presentation of the book ‘L’alba del Rinascimento ovvero il Dolce Stil Novo’ by Paolo Erasmo Mangiante. Published by Solfanelli; Italian literary criticism.

In this publication, the author addresses the all-Italian complex phenomenon of the premature awakening of literature and arts in the Italian peninsula since the time of the decline and fall of the Italic Kingdom and Byzantine dominance. It was the expression of that aristocratic-merchant society, which gave rise to the birth of the city-states across the peninsula. They stretched from central-northern Italy to the enlightened state of Frederick II, then Angevin in southern Italy. This era may be named Early Renaissance or Dolce Stil Nuovo.

In a word, in the aftermath of the demographic and artistic crisis, due in the mid-fourteenth century to the devastating effects of the black plague, history created the prelude of the second great Flowering of the Renaissance. As of today, it is considered as the real Renaissance, which basically is nothing but the pursuance of a renewal process begun and developed two centuries earlier.

It is stressed in particular the fundamental importance of Byzantine and classical art as matrices of Italian renewal. As Vasari assumed indeed, the Gothic style from cross-border had a minor and not always a decisive role. However, as is the case with Giovanni Pisano and later in the courtly art, an artistically significant contribution of the Gothic style is acknowledged.
