The advantages of controlled mechanical ventilation

2022-03-25 11:00:00

What does it mean to have this system in our home?

In a previous article I explained how a controlled mechanical ventilation system works.

Through a ventilation unit and a system of ducts and air terminals, it continuously renews the air in our home by extracting the "stale and dirty" air and introducing new air taken from outside the home itself. In a further article I also explained that this system certainly wins the comparison with the simple manual opening of the windows, thanks to the energy recovery allowed by the exchanger inside the ventilation unit.

In light of what has been discussed in previous articles, I would simply like to list the many advantages of this system that is spreading more and more in our homes.

1) HEALTH AND AIR QUALITY

The quality of the air we breathe in inhabited environments is undoubtedly superior to what we would have without the CMV (Controlled Mechanical Ventilation) system. The filters installed on the machine, or the latest generation filters that can be installed on the new air intake duct (I am referring to the electrostatic filters, which I will perhaps try to explain in a future article) allow to retain all the impurities present in the air: dust, pollen, allergens, mold spores, toner dust, bacteria, fungi… down to the smallest particles such as nanoparticles, exhaust gases and viruses, which can be eliminated with an electrostatic filter.

2) BETTER COMFORT

In a closed environment, as the hours go by, many pollutants accumulate that we would continue to breathe: carbon dioxide, cigarette smoke (in the presence of any smokers), radon gas, formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds of all kinds. Having a CMV system means being able to forget the feeling of “stale and closed air”, headaches, drowsiness and poor ability to concentrate. Some time ago I had the opportunity to enter the Town Hall of Dobbiaco (Italy), with offices open to the public and equipped with a mechanical ventilation system. Well ... I assure you that the feeling of comfort and well-being is felt immediately. Can you imagine the benefits of being able to work in such an environment?

3) ENERGY SAVING

To renew the air in our homes, we could easily resort to manually opening the windows. But… to obtain the same effects and the same benefits of a CMV system we would have to repeat this operation for 10 minutes every 2 hours. Can you imagine the consequences of such an intervention on the consumption of the heating system in winter and on that of the cooling system in summer? The controlled mechanical ventilation system avoids this problem and, thanks to the energy recovered from the heat exchanger inside the ventilation unit (see previous article), guarantees a continuous air exchange in our rooms with a considerable energy saving.

4) INCREASE IN THE VALUE OF THE PROPERTY

It is no coincidence that the CMV system has become mandatory in new buildings to achieve a certain energy class (class A and above). The advantages and benefits of this system are now recognized and its use automatically translates into an increase in the value of our home on the real estate market.
