Draining “pasta” ... a daily action hiding pitfalls!

2020-03-28 09:59:46

Warning! Better to take a small precaution ...

We do it almost every day, or at least every time we cook “pasta”. What? Draining “pasta” in kitchen sink!

We don’t even think for a moment, except for someone, that this action can cause a small damage.

Which damage?

The problem is that waste water pipes, under sink, are plastic pipes. It’s true that it is a special plastic material ... but not everyone knows that this material is resistant to operating temperatures up to 90-95 °.

In addition, this set of pipes (trap, dishwasher connection, overflow, etc ...) are connected with the help of rubber seals.

Well… the water we drain when we have cooked  “pasta” has 100 ° and the "thermal shock" to which we subject this set of pipes can cause, over time, excessive thermal expansion and leaking seals. The day comes when the sink trap begins to drip or lose.

Therefore, if we want to avoid this problem (and, as usual, it always happens on Sunday!!!), simply run the cold water, with the tap completely open, every time we drain “pasta”. In this way, we can mitigate the draining water temperature without "stress" for traps and waste water pipes.

Good pasta to all! ;-)
