The day when I found a secret garden.

At least I thought so.

I had half an hour free before a call, so I decided to go out for a walk in a garden 2min away. Just the typical British garden: green grass, fragrant roses, sand trails and gorgeous trees. All this surrounded by brick buildings.

When I arrived, there were also a couple of people walking the dog (well, actually one was rather a case of ‘dog walking the owner’ 😊). I did not stay long, just the time to enjoy some fresh air, then I started working my way back.

Once in front of the gate, surprise: a huge padlock and a solid chain were defiantly waiting for me! I was annoyed, but I saw a second gate and I smiled, savouring my victory! Once in front of the second gate, second surprise: an even bigger padlock, so intimidating that it did not need the support of a chain!

I looked around and nobody was there! ‘Where is everybody? Is this a secret garden? They dared to lock me inside?!? It must be because I do not own a dog, I did not see any warning at the entrance! Now I will be late for my call. And who knows when someone will come to rescue me, people today are so selfish! Etc.’ Here’s my brain in action, reminding me my favourite story: ‘The world hates me!’.

Luckily, I am working on myself, so after this moment of panic, I quickly managed to see that I was overreacting and that I was not in the middle of the jungle. So, I went to ring the bell of one of the brick buildings. A woman opened and, after I explained my ‘dramatic situation’ to her, kindly smiled at me and with a grounded voice said: ‘Just push the gate!’.

😅 Well, the padlocks were not locked!!! But when I saw them, I got so triggered that I even did not check!

Does this situation look familiar to you?

  • How many times did you get stuck in front of an obstacle on your way, an obstacle that eventually turned out to be a story you told yourself?
  • How many times did you blame others for that?
  • How many times did you give up reaching the conclusion that ‘this is not the way’?
