Do you want life to seduce or surprise you?
How a cat, a dog, a storm, a backpack and a French door helped me understand that, when I create more space for life to surprise me, it is more fun!
If you follow me, you may remember that I am an animal lover and one of my hobbies is pet sitting. Well, I am currently looking after a dog and a cat in Southern England.
I have been here for a couple of weeks, and I have just been in heaven! Mr 🐶 & Ms 🐱 are a pleasure to be around, people still smile, the village comes directly from a painting, and, last but not least, we have been blessed with a gorgeous Sun!
A couple of days ago I caught myself thinking: ‘Life is blissful!’
AND. Yesterday a strange noise woke me up. I looked outside the window and I was greeted by a storm. What struck me the most was not the mess in the garden, but…the daylight! I turned to my alarm clock for reassurance and…it was not there! Ms 🐱 must have played with it, it fell and got disactivated!
It was 9:14am 😱 , 3 hours late on my schedule, I needed to rush. Rushing, rushing I managed to work a bit and synchronise Mr 🐶 ‘s walk with the storm’s lunchbreak. Again, I thought: ‘So far all good!’ We took a panoramic path. The sky was so beautiful that I decided to take a picture of Mr 🐶 to send to his owners.
It was there that, with horror, I turned around and I saw all my belongings scattered along the path! My backpack must have got stuck in something while I was walking and got a hole! Mr 🐶 quickly ran towards his packet of treats that was lying on the ground close to my trousse. And, the planned Mr 🐶’s selfie became a snapshot of my face in that moment 😱!
I thought this was enough for one day. However, the best part was yet to come. It was about 8pm when I let Mr 🐶 out from the kitchen French door, then…I could not lock the door! No matter how much I was lifting the handle, pushing, and turning up or down, the door was not responsive 😱! I was ready to spend a sleepless night to guard the house (I told myself: ‘Luckily you overslept this morning…’).
After more than an hour of desperate attempts and several You Tube videos on the psychology of French doors, I contacted the owners asking for help! It was almost 10pm when kindly one of their sons came to rescue. He worked the miracle in…10sec! Basically, maybe due to the storm, there was a baby misalignment, and I just needed to be more forceful.
A little voice in my head whispered: ‘Shame on you!’, but I was tired, so I did not really pay attention. Time to say goodnight, finally! I went to the upper floor and...Ms 🐱 had fun in the garden and came home with her paws completely soaked in mud, leaving dark footprints all over the creamy carpet 😱!
At that point, I just had a question in my mind: ‘Do you want life to seduce or surprise you?’ Without hesitation, I chose the latter. And I felt an incredible amount of gratitude.
