Discernimento

Quando l'uomo percepisce i primi segni dell'illuminazione, comincia a paragonare le esperienze della creazione fisica che si formano durante lo stato di veglia, e quelle del sogno; rendendosi conto che queste ultime sono soltanto idee, dubita dell'esistenza sostanziale delle prime. Il suo cuore allora si sente ispirato a penetrare la vera natura dell'universo e, facendo ogni sforzo per chiarire i propri dubbi, cerca delle prove per stabilire che cosa sia la verità.
In questo stato l'uomo è chiamato kshatriya, o colui che appartiene alla casta dei guerrieri; combattere nella maniera illustrata in precedenza diventa il suo compito naturale, adempiendo il quale può riuscire a comprendere la natura della creazione e ottenere la reale conoscenza.

When man becomes a little enlightened he compares his experiences relating to the material creation, gathered in the wakeful state, with his experiences in dream; and, understanding the latter to be merely ideas, begins to entertain doubts as to the substantial existence of the former. His heart then becomes propelled to know the real nature of the universe and, struggling to clear his doubts, he seeks for evidence to determine what is truth. In this state man is called kshatriya, or one of the military classes; and to struggle in the manner aforesaid becomes his natural duty, by whose performance he may get an insight into the nature of creation and attain the real knowledge of it.
