Water: The Elixir of Life and the true Secret of Beauty
Have you ever been told that keeping constantly well-hydrated can help you to stay young, fit and slender?
Humans are willing to spend a fortune on any product, treatment or magic portion that
promises the miracle of eternal youth. Yet, many do not take advantage of
the most ancient and most natural beauty care ever: water
Water is known as the elixir of life, with excellent reasons.
Every system in our body needs it to survive. Water regulates body temperature, keeps
our joints lubricated, helps prevent infections and delivers nutrients to our cells.
In addition to this, our kidneys and liver depend on water to get rid of toxins in our
bodies.
Drinking enough water each day is crucial not only to keep organs functioning properly
but also to improve sleep quality, cognition and mood.
In few words, being well-hydrated is one of the most effective anti-aging treatments.
Water makes up about 60% of your body's weight, and although we can survive
without food for weeks, dehydration can kill us within days or even hours,
depending on the temperature and the environment.
Technically dehydration means that more water is moving out of our body's
cells than into them. And when this happens, it's not just water that we lose.
Small amounts of electrolytes that are critical to cell function and energy,
such as sodium and potassium, are lost along with the water.
Throughout the day we constantly lose water and electrolytes. This happens
via breath, sweat, urine and bowel movements, so even mild dehydration can
exhaust us and affect many of our body's daily functions.
Experts recommend drinking roughly 11 cups of water per day for women and
16 for men. Not all of those cups have to come from plain water, though.
Some can come from water flavored with lemons, berries, orange
or cucumber slices, from coffee or tea or from foods (did you know that around
20% of our daily H2O intake comes from solid foods, namely fruits and
vegetables?).
Water can help to shed kilos. Drinking a glass of water before a meal can fill up our
stomach and help to eat fewer calories.
Furthermore, dehydration is often mistaken for hunger, so we gain weight.
If you suffer from migraines, you should consider that studies show that a lack of fluids
might easily trigger an episode and headaches are likely to last longer when one is low
on fluids.
Dehydration can also leave us unable to concentrate, can cause short-term
memory problems and make us feel moody and anxious.
Prolonged dehydration can also crystallize salts and
minerals in urine, possibly leading to the formation of painful kidney stones.
Other signs of dehydration include fatigue, dizziness, confusion, less-frequent
urination and extreme thirst. The best way to stay hydrated is of course to drink
plain water, readily available and with zero calories.
But water is also an extraordinary beauty care product.
Not only does it enhance the skin (flushing out toxins we eliminate the
dirt that clogs the pores of our skin) hair and nails but it also gives us an
inner glow thanks to all its other benefits for the body.
Water helps to keep the skin tight and toned. Our body naturally fills
cells with water to make them firm and tight, thus reducing the appearance of
wrinkles for a smooth finish. When the cells are filled with water they become
bulged and push against your skin from the inside, and this can help to reduce
unsightly marks such as cellulite and flabby skin.
In addition, drinking plenty of water makes your hair naturally soft and
silky. If you have frizzy or brittle hair, don’t bother with expensive products
– just drink more water and you will see a difference in no time.
More water = A healthier you
What you put in your body really shows on the outside. Drinking water makes
your blood thinner, leading to a faster blood flow and nourishment for your
body cells. Lowering your blood pressure will give you a healthier heart and
gives you much more energy. With your in excellent working condition you will
feel and look great, giving you a natural confidence boost.
So, next time you want a beauty boost, just grab a glass!
